Three Non-toxic and Effective Ways to Prevent Cockroach Infestations
Cockroaches are some of the world’s most reviled pests. Many people are allergic to them and their shed carapaces and droppings. Preventing an infestation is much easier than getting rid of them once they are in your house. These three steps can help to prevent them from coming into your home. If you do find a roach, it is best to contact a professional for thorough cockroach extermination in Las Vegas.
Cut Off Their Water Supply
A cockroach can only survive for seven days without water. Look around your home for sources of water that these vermin could be using. Puddles, the dog bowl or a drippy faucet are enough to sustain a roach. Have a plumber check for leaks within your walls or around your home’s foundation.
Eliminate Trash
Keep trash containers tightly sealed. Take out your kitchen trash daily. If you have a compost pile, keep it away from your home and tightly sealed. Be sure to bag garbage in a thick plastic bag that is tightly tied. Remove clutter and debris from around the perimeter of your home, inside and outside. If you live in an apartment, your neighbors will need to do the same. Pick up dog droppings and clear away rotted vegetation and dropped fruit from trees.
Use Homemade Bait
Make a mixture of one part powdered boric acid, one part flour and one part sugar. Mix it up and shake it around the perimeter of your home. You can also sprinkle this around your flower beds, tool shed and any other area that you suspect might be harboring roaches. Keep your pets away from the mixture, which can be harmful to them. The roaches will eat and collect this mixture and take it back to their nests and feed it to their young. The mixture will kill them within a few days.
