Types of Scorpions

There are two types of scorpions that are most common in the Las Vegas area, the Desert Hairy Scorpion and the more dangerous Black Scorpion. The Desert Hairy Scorpion prefers to burrow underground, enjoying cool dark habitats. They’re most commonly found in cool basement areas, dark corners, or in piles of firewood or rotting vegetation, or even sometimes make their way into the walls. They can grow up to 6″ long, so they can fairly large. The more dangerous Black Scorpion, on the other hand, prefers the cool humid air in your home and will climb up on the walls and ceilings. You’ll most likely find them in dark cabinets, in tubs and sinks, as well as on your walls and ceilings.

How to Handle a Scorpion Infestation

The first step to dealing with scorpions is to prevent the infestation from getting any worse. You’ll want to discourage entry to your home by moving any woodpiles, brush, or lawn debris away from the foundation of your home. These damp cool areas are usually filled with other bugs as well, which will draw scorpions. Next, you’ll want to check for any kinds of leaks or breaks in your foundation. In most cases, scorpions get into your home through small cracks in the foundation, so fixing these will help prevent more from getting in.

You may be handle harmless pests like pigeon removal in Las Vegas on your own, but don’t attempt to remove scorpions without professional help. Scorpions can be both a nuisance and a danger depending on the type, so it’s important to deal with the infestation and soon as possible.
